I generally do not paint recognizable objects. The paintings are without a narrative and are are meant are meant to draw one in deeper and to be experienced viscerally, rather than cerebrally. They evoke emotion, from fiery passions to deep relaxation. Journeys and thresholds are the running theme throughout my artwork. Over time I have evolved from creating implied pathways to the more abstract concepts of expanded consciousness and awareness.
I often play with the boundary between “recognizable” and “abstract.” When looking at my paintings, imagine there is a focus knob just underneath that one can begin turning. I like creating pieces that have enough complexity and interest that the viewer continues to discover something new about them over time.
